  • Embroidery and the Union Jack Flag

Many companies today recognize the economic advantages of using popular images of unity and culture.? One such example would be the Union Jack Flag.? Originally made in the early 17th century to symbolize the unification of Scotland, England and Wales by James I, the combined banner is officially referred to as the "Union Flag" when seen in England, despite the fact that most people outside the UK refer to it as the ?Union Jack." In 1801 the Union Flag incorporated the Cross of St Patrick into the former layout in acknowledgement of the Act of Union with Ireland.? Since the flag isn't copyrighted, anybody can print or embroider their personal Union Jack image onto to any garment without being required to pay any royalties.? For instance, Virgin Atlantic recently added the British Flag motif to their planes.? Small businesses, too, are jumping on the bandwagon by having products imprinted with the Union Jack flag.? Plus, with the current coverage of royal events, from the Queen?s Jubilee to the Olympic Games, many people around the world have become once again interested in British Culture.

The flag is now used on numerous products.? From mugs to t-shirts, the Union Flag has found its way even into American culture ? a good test to see if this is true is to make note of how many times you see the flag in any given week.? The British emblem of unity can be seen on clothing and television shows, and it does seem to be one of the cool decorative accents that you see in many furniture stores.? However, this has not always been the case.? The flag itself has had a checkered history and has not always been so popular. In previous generations it has been seen by many as a throwback image of the golden age of the British Empire.? It was also adopted by the conservatives in Britain, which lead to the false perception of xenophobia or blind national pride.

But these days British culture is very much back in vogue, especially in light of the royal wedding.? It seems that after the tragic death of Princess Diana, there was a sense that we had lost something special, resulting in renewed appreciation for the charm and magic of a royal family.? To have true royalty today is rarer then ever before, and even though very few nations desire a monarchy, there does definitely seem to be a desire on the part of many to have the sense of royalty in their cultures.? The Union flag is that universally recognized symbol that will immediately capture a world of tradition and history in just one image.? It stands to reason, then, that such images would have resurgence in western culture.? As happy as we are with democracy and independence, there is still something in us that likes how a royal family can gives us a sense of another world.? A flag like the Union flag is one of those powerful reminders that we still do desire to have some things rooted in history and tradition despite our postmodern bend towards rapid change.

  • EmbroidMe Promotes Cause Marketing

West Palm Beach, FL – January 24, 2013 – Thirty years ago, a pink ribbon was just a hair accessory and a puzzle piece was nothing more than a toy. People lowered their voices to whispers when they said “cancer,” and the word “autism” was hardly spoken at all.  What made these previously unspoken words part of our everyday lexicon was cause marketing.  If you recognize which cause the color pink or a puzzle-piece bumper sticker is supposed to represent, it’s because cause marketing works.  Since its inception more than 10 years ago, EmbroidMe has been a leader in providing quality promotional items and exceptional service in the area of cause marketing.

Cause marketing is the way many charitable organizations develop their brands, and promotional products are an integral part of making those efforts successful. EmbroidMe offers a comprehensive selection of customized promotional products that will help you spread the word about your cause—koozie cups, t-shirts, tote bags, pens, bracelets, and more; the list is exhaustive and EmbroidMe has it all.

Another core aspect of cause marketing is event planning, and EmbroidMe can help with that as well.  Whether it’s a charity walk, golf tournament, auction or any other function, the on-site specialists at EmbroidMe are pros at helping you host a successful event  and make it one that people want to attend year after year.  One of the chief benefits of incorporating promotional products into your event is that their impressions linger long after the attendees go home, giving you a big bang for your marketing buck.

“EmbroidMe is sincerely dedicated to promoting charities, causes, and service to the community,” said an Embroidme Representative.  “We have always believed in paying it forward, and we are proud to be able to help you do the same.”

  • Embroidering Memories That Last

When I was about eight years old I was given a gift that I still remember fondly to this day.  It was very grown-up and very cool and it had my name on it.  It was a maroon corduroy jacket with a white emblem embroidered on it that let anybody and everybody know that I was a bona fide member of an exclusive club.  The club was called the Gallagher Club, and outside of Philadelphia the name might not even ring a bell, but to me and the rest of South Philly, wearing this jacket meant that for one brief moment in time I got to strut with the Mummers in the New Year’s Day parade.  It was a very big deal.

An embroidered corduroy jacket might not seem like that big of a deal, but trust me, it was.  It might not have kept me warm if more than a light breeze blew, but that wasn’t the point.  The point was that out of the roughly 4.85 billion people walking around in the world at that time, only about 60 people had that jacket.  The jacket represented a select group of people and the embroidered monogram signified that I belonged to that group and to the city itself.  It was a tremendous source of pride to an eight-year-old me and it represented a feeling of camaraderie that has stayed with me well into adulthood.  My short time with the club is still a cherished memory and it is only enhanced by the thought of my name embroidered on that jacket.

Knowing what a lasting gift an embroidered piece of clothing can be, I recently got hold of an old Beatles t-shirt that belonged to my dad way back when Beatle Mania was still at its peak.  Since he has long outgrown the shirt he wore back then, I gave it to a friend of mine who is a wiz on the sewing machine and had her turn it into a pillow case and personalize it with an embroidered message.  A regular t-shirt refashioned into a pillow case is not that big of a deal, but a pillowcase made from a t-shirt that you have because you were around to fall in love with the Beatles when they were still live on Ed Sullivan is a very big deal indeed.  It’s the memory that makes it matter.

  • The Arty Side of Embroidery

When most of us think of embroidery we think of a common design element that is seen on sports jerseys, polo shirts and monogrammed gifts, but embroidery encompasses much more than practical, modern uses.? It?s also a form of fine art with a history that reaches back as early as the Middle Ages.? For those of you who have not read your grammar-school history books in a while, I can assure you that the Middle Ages were a long, long time ago, so the history of embroidery as an art form is a lengthy and rich one indeed. The method of running a needle and thread through a piece of cloth began as a practical technique used to make clothing and tools, but it evolved into a form of fine art that remains popular to this day.? From the designs we see on everyday items found in the home to clothing worn by the likes of royalty and first ladies, embroidery is an art form that takes many shapes.? The Metropolitan Museum of Art maintains a collection of textiles that showcase intricate and beautiful examples of embroidery that span time periods from as early as 1250 B.C and as recent as the 1990s.? These include things like tapestries, religious cloths, robes and dresses, and they are so finely crafted and so striking in detail and color that it is hard to believe the designs are composed entirely of minuscule, hand-made stitches. Another place to see exemplary pieces of artistic embroidery is throughout the Appalachian region of the United States.? One particular piece that comes to mind is on display at the Grove Park Inn; a length of embroidered cloth that might have been used in the 19th century as a table runner is now regarded as a prized work of local art due to its rich aesthetic and enduring craftsmanship. It?s quite an impressive example of what can be accomplished with a needle and thread.? Even as industrial technology has altered the way embroidery is done, embroidery as an art form is still highly regarded.? When stitched by talented hands, embroidered embellishments can turn a simple piece of cloth into an intricate work of art.

  • Screen Priniting Services

Screen printing is among the most effective and impressive print methods available today, with a useful process that can be utilized on a wide range of mediums, thus making screening one of the more favored printing techniques. In fact, this silk screening grew to be very common in the 60s when designers used screening as a way of making one of kind paintings. The procedure for screen printing can be applied to substrates that other kinds of print techniques cannot be used for. While most commonly used in T-shirt prints, screen printing services also can print on other materials such as metal and plastic. It can actually print on most products such as cards, signs, labeling, and other gadgets. In fact there's little this print method cannot be used on, since sizing, solidity or shape of the item will not hinder the silk screening process. And, for all those tasks that require the noticeable "look" of something unique, then this is the best print technique to opt for. Several jobs favor using this process of printing since the ink can be more liberally applied to the product or item of choice. Also, colors can be blended together and immediately applied to the substrate allowing for a one-of-a-kind result that will not be able to be replicated with other printing methods. Screen printing is normally used by artist for useful creative work since the original finishes make the end product unique. plus, an extensive array of colors and various kinds of ink may be used due to the easy application process. However, screen printing can be labor intensive, so this kind of printing should? best applied to smaller job specifications that require a creative edge. Having letterhead of businesses cards screened is probably not the most beneficial use of your money, but reprinting posters, designing on garments, or even creating company clothing will be great? for this specific type of print method. When there are particular print projects that need this kind of process, those looking for screening should initially identify requirements prior to communicating with a company that provides screen printing services. Screen printing pricing and cost will also be determined by the design and style and size of the job. Quantity, the machinery used the types of materials needed, and the work or time required will all factor in the final price. Should the project be small but still require a skillful hand, then using a smaller sized custom made screen printer may very well be the best option. i.e. small orders of regular T-shirt prints can be done by a cheaper but larger task you want to find the best professional screen printing service available.
